One of the government’s top health experts has been appointed as Southwark Council’s new Director of Health and Wellbeing.
Professor Kevin Fenton will join the council from his role with Public Health England in April.
He will sit on the council’s Chief Officer Team and work with Deborah Collins – strategic director of environment and social regeneration – to help ensure the council’s new housing schemes promote good health and wellbeing.
In his current role Professor Fenton is responsible for a number of national projects such as prevention of obesity and HIV.
Professor Fenton said: “I am excited by this opportunity to help shape health in one of London’s most dynamic boroughs.
“The key wellbeing and care services local government provides and the leadership role it plays are pivotal to improving people’s health and building strong, connected and resilient communities.”
