Schoolchildren flogged their own-grown fruit and veg at Borough Market last week, to raise money for FareShare – a charity that rescues good food about to be thrown out.
The Harvest Sale marks the fifth year Borough Market and School Food Matters have worked together on the project, seeing a total of 237 children over the years sell their food there.
Supported with funding from United St Saviour’s Charity, pupils were taught green fingered tips in Spring by an ex-Blue Peter gardener, as well as trading techniques from sellers in the market. A total of £2,931 has been raised over the past five years which translates to 11,724 meals from FareShare to feed vulnerable families.
