PARKING FINES DON'T EXACTLY ENCOURAGE HEALTHY LIVING!

Whilst running around Peckham Rye Common and park on Sunday (6th May) I was taken aback to see cars parked on Straker Road (on the Common) were being photographed and, I presume, ticketed by Southwark parking attendants.

Yes, the cars did have their wheels on the pavement but, as parking was on both sides, this was clearly done to alleviate congestion and ease the traffic flow.

On my return home, I thought about this and the effect it would have on the drivers who were taking part in the numerous and commendable sporting activities on the Common. Surely this will not encourage them to continue a healthy lifestyle? I am fortunate enough to be within easy walking distance of the Common, but this is not the case for many others.

I did look again on the following Sunday to ascertain if wheelchair access was compromised and it did seem that the pavement /road/ grass borders were quite level and such parking would not cause undue problems.

Why were Southwark parking attendants out on the Common on a Sunday?
