FRANK MALONEY'S VIEW
The one thing I got right was that David certainly sent the few British fans into rapture and the whole of Paris into mourning.
It was a great night to be British. As we walked into the arena the crowd were booing and pointing at the Union Jack suit, but after round 7 David won the crowd over and guess what – every Frenchman wanted his picture taken with the walking flag!
Do you know what? There’s not a lot I can say about this – I’m writing from the WBC convention in the Philippines where I’m still celebrating and listening to people talking about the victory! Everyone here believed David was going to get beaten and he proved them all wrong in the best possible way.
Right now, if you’re in the boxing business, it’s great to be British because everybody wants to be our friend. We’ve got two of the hat trick we were after, now it’s all down to Ricky Hatton.
If one of Hatton, Haye or Calzaghe does win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year I will have to question the voting. These guys have done more for Britain than any other sportsmen this year.
On another note, I’d like to wish Kenny Jackett all the best and I hope he can turn Millwall around – then we can really end 2007 on a high note in south London!
