THE OLD VIC

The Old Vic celebrates great acting. Our iconic 200 year-old building demands powerful actors, big plays and a sense of event. And of course, it needs an audience, the essential ingredient that really makes a theatre come alive.

Discover more about the history of The Old Vic.

After a number of years as a receiving house, The Old Vic's Chief Executive Sally Greene, Artistic Director Kevin Spacey and Producer David Liddiment, launched The Old Vic Theatre Company in 2004, with the aim of revitalising the Theatre and making it a destination as a producing house once again.

More than 425,000 theatre-goers came through our doors over the first two seasons, to see shows including Aladdin, with Ian McKellen as Widow Twankey, The Philadelphia Story with Jennifer Ehle, and Richard II, for which Trevor Nunn directed Kevin Spacey in the title role.

The Old Vic puts on plays as its main activity, but we're also a social enterprise through the work of Old Vic New Voices. Over the coming seasons we will build on our commitment to making theatre accessible to young people by continuing to offer £12 tickets to under 25s at every performance. And with young people and the Waterloo neighbourhood the focus of our supporting programme, we will introduce more new audiences to the Theatre through education and community projects.

The Old Vic Theatre Company receives no subsidy and is financed entirely through ticket sales, investors and sponsorship. Find out more about ways to support The Old Vic.
