1 October 2008
AS PECKHAM'S Urban Farmers' Market re-opens, it wants to give the local community a modern market with a greater variety of stalls and goods on sale.
As the new owners took over the decade-old market in Peckham, they decided to work on the tired concept and reinvent the popular weekend event. Now the new Urban Farmers' Market includes everything from organic lamb and beef to Turkish delight. As the owners themselves pointed out: "We have it all covered!"
The central location means it is a popular event for families looking for a nice day out and the market's familiar feel is what the owner is most proud of: "What's best about our market is the fresh produce and the local farmers who can talk to you about what they're selling." She continues: "People want to know about the food they're buying."
Future plans for the market include cookery demonstrations, a bigger variety of stalls and foods on sale and further on stalls on other sites.
Located in Peckham Square near Peckham Library, every Sunday between 9am and 1pm.
