THE FA have handed Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford a three-match ban after his blatant elbow on David Forde was reviewed by a disciplinary panel.

Having missed the blow, referee Alan Wiley only booked the east Londoner for a push in the 63rd-minute but the incident, captured by Sky Sports, was investigated by the FA, who have charged the goal machine with violent conduct.

23-goal Beckford thought he had got away with the attack, deemed by the FA to be separate from the push that he was booked for seconds before, as he gloated in the TV interviews after the game.

"Nothing happened," he said with a grin. "I never touched him."

The 25-year-old, who netted both goals in the 2-0 defeat on Monday night, will now miss three games and put a significant dent in the Yorkshire side’s promotion push.

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett was left fuming after the game. Having missed the incident, he told the 'News': "I have seen my goalkeeper’s jaw and his eye, and they don't look good. There is a fair bit of damage to his face - bad bruising and a cut."

The FA statement on Wednesday read: "Jermaine Beckford has been charged under FA Rule E3 (violent conduct) for an incident on the field of play which falls within Law 12 - not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

"The FA have been advised by the match referee [Alan Wiley] that Jermaine Beckford was cautioned for a pushing incident that occurred prior to the incident involving Millwall's David Forde."

The Lions stopper felt he was let down by ref Wiley at the time and felt that had it happened at the other end - a straight red card would have been the result. He said: "It is the referee that I was disappointed with. I am not protected. The lino has seen it and flagged.

"If that was a Millwall player - that's a sending off. No two ways about it. But it is football I suppose and is put right now.

"I should be alright for the weekend. I have put some ice on it and seen the doc."

Beckford, who was shown a straight red last season in the 1-1 draw with Gillingham that saw Tresor Kandol sent off in the same game, will have until 6pm today [Thursday] to appeal against the decision.

Could you imagine the FA saying the referee has reviewed an incident and now thinks he shouldn't have booked Vidic against Totenham and instead he now has a 3 match ban Mr Ferguson..or more likely 'Mr Ferguson is it OK if we ban one of your players - please' Monday night's was a hard fought game with people giving and taking and yes Beckford stepped over the line...just like the Millwall lad did on Robinson!

Forde ( who also hit beckford in the head with an elbow) is wrong in his comments "If that was a Millwall player - that's a sending off. No two ways about it" I think the player who elbowed Robinson in the 1st half was very lucky to stay on the pitch, he made no attempt to play the ball. - MK Dons fan
