Joey Pearson just failed in his shot at London Title last weekend, but was left with the admiration of his trainer, who described him as a pleasure to work with.

The twelve-year-old Walworth lad lost on points 9-6 to an experienced opponent from West Ham, but his display was so impressive he will now be considered for a London squad who will fight against Ireland later in the year.

The youngster has just six contests under his belt, but has impressed everyone at the club with his recent development that saw him secure the south east London championship recently.

His trainer Samm Mullins said that his attitude and guts have surprised everyone, including himself. He said: "Some kids can have fifteen to 20 fights before they get to this stage, and to be honest I gave him the first round to see what he could do against a really good kid and he won that round.

"I thought the fight was close, the kid from West Ham won but Joey was just fantastic and it was a pleasure to be in his corner. His attitude has been spot on since then as well all he has been asking about is getting back in the ring again.
"Even the guys from West Ham thought they would win easily, but they said he just blew them away with the way he fought."

The club receive some further good news, in addition to Pearson's selection for the London squad, when three of its fighters were put in a provisional England squad.

Michael Shannon, Ryan Jackson and Chris Mbwakongo will all be considered for a contest against Poland, adding to the feel good factor at the club.
Mullins added: "I'm over the moon at the minute with the whole club. I have to say with Joey it is the first time I have been happy with one of my boys who lost but he done so well."
