THE THAMES WALK

1 October 2008

COMBINING A good cause with an autumn stroll along the South Bank is the perfect way to spend an October day, writes Madeleine Lindh...

The Jubilee Walkway was originally set up as part of the celebrations for the Queen's Silver Jubilee and Southwark-based charity The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is putting it to good use by organising a walk along sections of the beautiful walkway.

The sponsored walk will go past some of the capital's great attractions. Peter Crampton, Regional Fundraising Manager for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign in London said: "This is a great opportunity to see the capital. It is an excellent route and takes in the Houses of Parliament, The London Eye, Globe Theatre and the Tate Modern amongst many more".

The organising charity is the only in the UK to focus on all muscular diseases, which afflict more than 60,000 people in the UK. A further 300,000 people, such as family, friends or carers, are affected indirectly. The conditions can be inherited or acquired and can affect people of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities and there are currently no cures.

The walk starts at 10.30pm on Sunday 5 October. If you would like to take part, contact Peter at the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign on 0207 803 4823, or email: london@muscular-dystrophy.org.
