GEORGE CANNINGS

GEORGE CANNINGS

9 December 2009

With a vibrant new look and a completely new team of enthusiastic staff, the George Canning is definitely back open for business, writes Suzi Ring…

And with a new menu, new drinks and a chic new look, Dave Walker, the Canning's manager, says the place is now an 'upmarket version of its former self.'

THE DRINKS
With a good mix of class and normality, punters are offered all the standards, with an added cocktail menu for those after a bit of sophistication or with a high maintenance date. The pub has even tailored its own cocktail, 'Canning's Choice'- a bourbon based cocktail for those who can handle it.

THE FOOD
If the new Thai flavours adding a bit of exoticism to the pub menu are not to your taste then there is the normal pub grub to suit all, including the classic beef burger and pie. Prices are an average of £9, with three menu changes a
day to cater for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

THE ROOM
The George Canning has a warm and cosy feel, providing the right setting for both a meal and a casual drink.
The new spacious bar allows punters to see the range of choice available without sifting through endless menus and a TV showing the latest music videos provides a pleasant background noise.

THE FEEL
The refurb has created an environment suited to all tastes and ages, that would make anyone feel comfortable, even to peruse a paper and have a pint alone.
There's a sense that a pillar in the community has returned and everyone is glad to have it back.

Manager -  'We've had such fantastic feedback since the refurb, especially on our round-the-clock service, that includes breakfast from 7.30am!'

Barman - 'It's a really great, friendly place to work, with a fantastic group of fun and interesting locals.'

Regular -
'I find every other bar in this area either overwhelming or underwhelming.
The George Canning has got it just right.'
