HURT LOCKER: INTRODUCED BY A MAN WHO'S BEEN THERE

HURT LOCKER: INTRODUCED BY A MAN WHO'S BEEN THERE

26 March 2010

The Southwark News Film Club is back this month.

Last year we held a monthly club at the newly opened independent Shortwave cinema at Bermondsey Square. Each screening is hosted by a related author, who will take a question and answer session after the film is shown.
Everyone who attends will also get the chance to buy a signed copy of the book.

Next month’s screening,on Tuesday April 20 at 8pm and  is certainly not one to miss!
We are hosting a  Special Screening of Oscar Award Winning The Hurt Locker introduced by Major Chris Hunter, a bomb disposal expert who has spent years in not only Iraq and Afghanistan but most of our modern day battlefields.

Chris Hunter joined the British Army at sixteen. He was commissioned from Sandhurst and later served with a number of specialist counter terrorism units. During his career he deployed to a number of operational theatres, including The Balkans, Northern Ireland, Colombia, Afghanistan and Iraq. For his actions during his Iraq tour, he was awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal.

Chris rounded off his military career as a senior intelligence analyst at the Ministry of Defence. At the time of the London suicide bombings, he was seconded to COBRA, the Cabinet Office's emergency response committee.
Since retiring from the army, Chris has worked as a counter-terrorism consultant, writer and broadcaster.

His first memoir, Eight Lives Down, tells the harrowing story of his experiences in Iraq, while its sequel Extreme Risk (due for release in May 2010), charts the mesmerizing story of his journey into bomb disposal and the terrifying career he spent fighting the World's deadliest bomb-makers.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Explosives Engineers, a Member of the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators and a regular contributor to television and radio news and current affairs programmes.
Tickets are priced at £5.  The film starts at 8pm.

Shortwaves cinema specialises in independent films and screenings of local directors. It has a capacity of 50 - so to avoid disappointment reserve a space for our film evening
