The council should be congratulated for bumping ex-service men and women up the housing list.
Housing chief Cllr Ian Wingfield has proven a real supporter of the UK?Homes4Heroes campaign, which was launched by Bermondsey man and Camberwell’s very own Pearly King Jimmy Jukes.
The News has worked with the charity to help raise money to build homes for the our troops returning from Iraqi and Afghanistan.
Local people and businesses touched by the plight of our heroes have given generously to the cause. Despite the enormous pressure on housing in the borough, it is refreshing to see Southwark so in tune with local and national feeling.
Southwark is among only a handful of councils to adopt this policy - in London only Brent does likewise.
