Surrey got their Royal London One-Day Cup campaign underway in fine style on Monday with a comprehensive victory over Northants at the Kia Oval.
The Kennington club’s first game in the 50 over competition on Friday, against Leicestershire at Grace Road, was rained off but three days later Surrey got going in style.
The Midlands club were thumped by 220 runs on the day with both of Surrey’s openers setting the tone for the day when batting first. Jason Roy scored yet another century, before falling on 108, whilst Steven Davies fell just short of a ton on 99.
That platform allowed Surrey to compile 343 in their 50 overs and Northants were never in the game when Jade Dernbach took two early wickets with only six runs on the scoreboard. Wickets regularly fell, with the exception of Ben Duckett who scored 56, and the visitors were bowled out in 24 overs having scored just 123.
