Fisher boss Dean Harrison insists his side can still go down, despite an unbeaten run of four games that has secured them a fifteen point cushion above the solitary drop spot in the Southern Counties East Football League.
Since the turn of the year the Rotherhithe club, who play home games at Champion Hill in East Dulwich, have picked up ten points from a possible twelve. The latest point came last Saturday against Rochester United when the pair played out a 1-1 draw.
Despite the healthy points advantage Harrison insists nobody on his playing staff can rest on their laurels. He told the News: “The threat of relegation has not been removed and we still have a long way to go this season.
“We all know how things can turn around in football, and how inconsistent we can be, so until we are mathematically safe we need to continue to work hard as a group and continue to get results.” The Black and Whites gaffer has also told his staff that they have another incentive to continue their good form, namely to remain part of the club next season when they move to a new ground in the north of Southwark.
Harrison added: “I have told the boys here now that next season at our new ground we are likely to have good players knocking on our door asking to get involved in the new setup. “So if they want to be part of that they need to work hard so they can be a part of it too.
This is a club that finishes near the bottom of the table every year and I want to change that.” Saturdays result ended a sequence of three wins on the bounce, and although Fisher did not lose Harrison was disappointed another three points were not secured. He said: “It was a two points dropped against Rochester as it is a game we should be looking to win especially at home. “We knew they were on the back of a good result against [league leaders] Hollands & Blair but we knew how they would play.
“We knew they would play the long ball and hit the diagonals and we worked on that. We were good defensively, apart from the goal, but on Saturday we weren’t good going forward which is usually our strength.”
