New Millwall striker Ashlee Hincks believes it is only a matter of time before the Lionesses start picking up three points more regularly after they played out another draw last Sunday.
The Lionesses are still unbeaten in the league this campaign after six games, but five of those contests have ended in draws rather than victories. But ex-Gillingham Ladies star Hincks, who made her Lionesses debut in the 2-2 draw with Yeovil last Sunday, believes things will only get better for Millwall this season.
She said: “‘I was so impressed with every one of my team mates, everyone worked really hard and I think that if that’s the standard and we carry on like that then those draws will soon turn into wins. “Yeovil are going for promotion and they are one of the strongest squads in the league and for us to perform the way we did means we have done ourselves proud – a draw was a fair result.” She added: “‘I didn’t expect to start against Yeovil. Dan [Mlinar, Lionesses manager] said to me when I arrived ‘I’m throwing you in at the deep end. No pressure’.” Hincks played this past winter season with FA Southern Premier League side Gillingham Ladies, scoring an impressive 20 goals in 23 games. Millwall skipper Dionne Lennon was happy with how the club’s new striker played last Sunday.
She said: “I think she brought a lot more movement up front, brought a lot of other players into the game. “She’s come in, only trained with us for a couple of sessions and made an instant impact, and I think to do that on your debut is absolutely fantastic.” Against Yeovil goals from Naomi Cole and Rosella Ayane allowed Millwall to come from behind on two occasions in order to maintain their unbeaten league record.
This weekend the Lionesses are in action on Sunday against Watford, a 6pm kick off, with the Millwall home fixture taking place at Harlow Town FC. For the latest Lionesses news visit millwall.fawsl.com.
