The riverside and the dockland area of Bermondsey and Rotherhithe were a crucial theatre of the Second World War. On one side, the bomb, the mine and the rocket – on the other, the boot, the barge and the biscuit. Across the entire borough, civilians lost their lives and many more were injured.
