30 October 2008
ON THURSDAY, October 30, Dulwich’s Paxton re-launches as gastro pub The Mansion, under new management.
The pub, situated at the bottom of Sydenham Hill, also boasts a brand new menu and new chef to go with it.
The restaurant says its focus will be on a predominantly modern British menu with an unfussy style. Highlights on the menu include Barnsley chop with red cabbage and Leek and Caerphilly cheese Sausages.
Drinks wise there is an extensive wine list which has both European and New World wines to choose from with bottles starting from £13.95.
There is also a short cocktail list which, while not expansive, covers all the usual suspects.
The pub was previously called the Paxton, after Jeremy Paxton, the man responsible for the original Crystal Palace built to house the Great Exhibition in 1851.
A large Victorian building, it has been recently redesigned to give its interior a fresh and modern feel, and enjoys the added benefit of having a large garden at the back, perfect for a summer afternoon, or smoking.
