Young Southwark swimming star Amelia John has been invited to swim at the ASA National Summer Championships and could also be in line for an international call up.
She will compete in the 100 metre backstroke at Ponds Forge, Sheffield this August as she is one of the top twenty swimmers in the country in her age group.
A Southwark Aquatics Swimming Club (SASC) spokesman said: “You have to say well done to Amelia and massive thanks to the coaches, and everyone that has supported her this season.
“Also, Amelia has been selected to swim for the English Schools Swimming Association, to compete at the Inter Divisional Championships, being held in Sunderland this month.
“She will race in the 100 metre and 200 metre backstroke events, representing the London Team. From this Championships an International Schools Team is selected, so we wish her good luck in that too.” Elsewhere at the club, based at Seven Islands Leisure Centre in Rotherhithe, Jessie Kullman picked up the SASC Jack Petchey Award for May.
The spokesman added: “Jessie’s hard training, dedication and improved performance over the last few months were recognised with this award.” For more information about the club visit www.southwarkaquatics.co.uk.
