You are here: Walworth \ Kids \ CHILDREN BRING CHAPLIN BACK
11 July 2008
FOUR WALWORTH primary schools performed self-made productions based on Charlie Chaplin's life, not aware of a special guest in the audience - the great man's son.
The children put on plays, dance numbers and an animation sequence last Friday, all to demonstrate what the actor and comedian's life and childhood may have been like. Only at the end of the performances was Christopher Chaplin, who was watching alongside Mayor Eliza Mann and North Southwark and Bermondsey MP Simon Hughes, introduced.
The schools involved were St Peter's School, Crampton School, Surrey Square Primary and Infant's School and St John's CE Primary School, in an historical work developed by South Bank University lecturer and historian Dr Alan Parkinson.
The plays are only the start of a project about Chaplin that continues this week at South Bank, where a series of artworks created by schools will be displayed in the Keyworth Mezzanine on Keyworth Street.
