Tamsin Grieg with Mark Dinwoodie of The Rake
Drinks were chinked and celebrations were had after two Southwark pubs and cafes won prestigious Time Out Eating and Drinking Awards.
At the 25th annual awards, 'The Rake' in Borough Market was named Best Bar, while 'The Rosendale' in Dulwich picked up the Best Gastropub title. The Tate Modern Cafe: Level 2 also picked up the award for Best Family Restaurant.
After hearing of his win, Mike Hill, joint company owner of The Rake, the charming thirteen feet long by seven feet wide beer bar nestled in the shadow of Soutwark Cathedral, modestly exclaimed: "We are very happy. It's all down to the customers and the staff, so thank you very much indeed!" While Mark Van der Goot, who along with his partner Sharlyn are the brains behind turning The Rosendale around from a worn out coaching inn to an impressive pub and eatery, joyfully exclaimed: "I am elated. I never thought we were going to win. I'm completely shocked!"
Robin Bidgood, CEO of Tate Catering said: It has always been our ambition for Café 2 to be a welcoming and enjoyable environment for families that offers a great selection of wholesome food and drink for all ages. To have our ambition realised, and recognised by the public is fantastic.
The star-studded ceremony was presented by comedian Phil Jupitus.
