TUNNEL OF LOVE

6 February 2008

If you're looking for a totally unique Valentine's Day experience, look no further than the Brunel Museum, writes Charlotte Vaughan-Williams...

It may not sound like a conventional choice to celebrate your romance but for one night only, on February 14th, the museum will turn into a restaurant with a lavish menu designed by the owner of Simplicity restaurant, Laurence Lingard.

Since the closure of the East London line earlier this year the guided tours of the tunnels, which were popular with couples on Valentine's Day, have had to stop.

Director of the Museum, Robert Hulse, said: "When the tunnels first opened as a fair in 1852, the entertainment for the evening was Ethiopian singers, Indian dancers and Chinese singers." The menu for the Valentine's evening is set to echo this, with food from different continents for each course.

"The menu includes spices from Africa, Chinese love fruits, and lotus from India and there will also be a cabaret show during the course of the evening," he added.

The cost of the evening is £40 per head, which includes the three course meal and a glass of bubbly. Please contact Robert Hulse on 020 7231 3840 for more details.
