Surrey (307-9dec) drew with Kent (160-2)
ANOTHER OUTSTANDING knock by Mark Ramprakash was to little avail as the weather yet again foiled Surrey's bid to avoid the drop in a soggy draw with Kent at Canterbury last week.
The prolific batsmen notched the 103rd ton of his stellar career but Surrey were left scrambling for bonus points instead of hunting that elusive win after the best part of two days were lost to rain.
Ramprakash came to the crease in the first over of the third day, with his team on 0 for 1. He sprayed the Kent attack all around the ground, hitting twelve fours and clearing the rope six times on his way to 127.
Along with Usman Afzaal., who made 67, Ramprakash helped Surrey to 307 for 9 declared in their first innings. However, the two sides opted against manufacturing a run chase and the match fizzled out after more rain on the fourth day. Kent eventually ended on 160 for 2.
Both sides took seven points from the match, but that will do little to help Surrey who are still rooted to the foot of the LV County Championship Division One table. The Brown Caps are eighteen points from safety with just two games of the season remaining.
