One of our three MPs, Harriet Harman, has become the longest-serving female member of Parliament – and it is an extraordinary achievement to have served her community for 34 years and counting.
The MP for Camberwell and Peckham broke the record previously held by the late Gwyneth Dunwoody on December 16. Since her election in 1982, Harriet has served under seven party leaders, spent 28 years on the front bench, twice served as interim leader, worked as Solicitor General and served as both deputy leader and deputy Prime Minister. She is recognised nationally as a champion of both women and children in her work.
We salute Harriet for this achievement – the borough should be proud to boast a politician who has served her community for over three decades.
Dont you mean 34 years doing nothing
