We love Southwark and know that in this time of crisis the people of this borough will come together, obviously maybe not physically, but in spirit and with a can do attitude.
As an independent paper – the only paid for independent title in London – we are also adapting to the global pandemic that is forcing people to stay home and is terrifying for those most vulnerable in our society.
There are many moving parts to producing a newspaper each week and for as long as we can we will bring you the paper every Thursday. However, our digital reach has expanded massively over the last few years and it is here that we can help keep all our readers informed, connected and even amused.
Our staff at the Southwark News, working remotely at home and when necessary out on the ground, will continue to provide you with the news and report on decisions made at the town hall, at hospitals and in Westminster. We hope to highlight in these coming months the people who are doing extraordinary things at such a worrying time and urge all readers to get in touch with us and let us know of stories that will help inspire us all to battle through this situation. Email us at editor@southwarknews.co.uk
We have also launched a rolling blog that will be manned on our website to update you of events as we hear and see them. We will work closely with the council, hospitals, police and all other public bodies to help communicate announcements and advice.
Through the Southwark News and our in other publications, the recently launched Urban Fox, Bermondsey Biscuit and Rotherhithe Docker, plus our sister paper Greenwich and Lewisham Weekender we have always made it a core mission to get you out of your homes and explore the wonderful arts, events and culture we can boast of in south London. The uncertainty over how long measures will be in place makes it very difficult for these businesses and institutions, but we will help where we can. If you want to let us know what you are doing, whether you are offering a delivery service, an online class or simply want to send a video message to your customers, our team can help you with that.
And when this is all over we will be stronger – but for now stay safe, optimistic and keep in touch.
A rolling blog is an excellent idea. We need ongoing information that is current. so we have information which is more accurate. The virus is a serious issue, and if the charts, that I saw here are accurate, then the situation is only growing worse. https://worldhealthalerts.weebly.com/coronavirus-death-rates-by-age-gender-and-country
