Valli Lawrence is a self-taught artist and animal lover who is having her first art exhibition to raise funds for the World Wide Fund for nature (WWF), which she has supported for many years.
Valli says: ‘It is only in the last couple of years that I have drawn and painted some dogs for a few friends and they were so pleased with them that it gave me the confidence to try and support WWF in this way. I have painted many different species of animals, plus other subjects, to try and create an exhibition that will hopefully appeal to many tastes. I have found it extremely challenging, but what an exciting adventure it has been!’
Before Covid Valli could be found at The Docklands Settlement where she attended weekly classes for flower arranging, organised by Debbie Western, and art classes run by the art teacher Parvin. Now, however, she spends her time painting and enjoying the local wildlife on walks around Rotherhithe.
Art by Valli can be seen at Deli Felice, 40 Albion Street, Rotherhithe, SE16 7JQ until 23rd January 2021. Times: Mon to Fri 8.30am to 5pm, Saturday 10am to 4pm. Admission: Free.
