Two police officer were rushed to hospital after a hit-and-run driver struck them in the Blue area of Bermondsey last night (Friday February 7) while they were attending the scene of a suspected drug deal.
The officers, one male and one female, were investigating a suspected drug deal while on patrol in Bombay Street, off Southwark Park Road involving a car and a moped at around 8.50pm, Scotland Yard told the News.
When they attempted to intervene, ‘the car drove away from the scene and collided with two officers” police said.
The female officer was taken to hospital for treatment for a leg injury and the male officer for an arm injury.
Police said the moped was ridden away from the scene, but was traced to address in nearby Camilla Road, behind Iceland supermarket.
They have arrested one male on suspicion of GBH and he remains in custody. They added: “A firearm, believed to be an air-powered pistol – was discovered during a search of the address.”
Police enquiries into the circumstances continue and they are still trying to trace the car.
