At this time of year the annual excitement of filling the Southwark Park Galleries walls floor to ceiling with artworks and having everyone there to celebrate the Annual Open Exhibition, is sadly not possible, so they have had to adapt.
To reflect the change in circumstances and to support as many artists as they can during these challenging times, the gallery is waiving fees this year. Plus, this year the 36th Annual Open Exhibition will go completely digital, with 2D & 3D work taking over the online shop and moving image work screening throughout the exhibition on their website.
The gallery announced that this year’s ‘best in show’ will be selected by the internationally renowned artist Bedwyr Williams.
A spokesperson said, ‘Moving the Annual Open Online will be a new experience for us as it will for all our participants, but we believe it is going to be an exciting new way to showcase emerging and established artists alike, whilst increasing visibility and more opportunities for all participating artists to sell their work to a much broader online audience. Each sale from The Annual Open Online not only supports artists but contributes to Southwark Park Galleries charitable aims and helps keep our programme of exhibitions, events and learning activities free to everyone.’
