A longstanding Bermondsey glassblowing studio is the location for a humorous new advert.
The slapstick advert, by BT, shows an employee narrowly avoiding disaster on several occasions at the London Glassblowing workshop on Bermondsey Street – from nearly being hit by a blowpipe as he picks up a rag, to narrowly missing a large piece of stretched-out molten glass.
Studio founder Peter Layton, who turns 84 later this month, said he and his colleagues were “delighted to be featured”.
“It’s great to see the ancient artform of glassblowing presented in such a humorous way,” he added.
“Anyone looking to see our pieces first-hand can enjoy them at our Summer Show which starts this week – though we certainly hope visitors to our studio will be more careful than the man in the advert!”
The show runs for a month at the gallery on Bermondsey Street from Friday (June 18) to July 17 and features Peter alongside other artists who have worked in the studio over the past ten years.
These include Elliot Walker, who won the second season of Netflix glassblowing show Blown Away. The show will also include online talks.
Pieces will also be available to view and buy via an online catalogue at https://londonglassblowing.co.uk
