A man has been arrested and two others taken to hospital after a stabbing and explosion in New Cross that police think are connected.
Police were called just before midday on Friday (June 25) to reports of a stabbing on Achilles Street. Officers found a 41-year-old man with stab wounds. He was taken to hospital but his life is not believed to be in danger.
The investigation that followed took officers to an address about 100 metres away in Batavia Mews. As they investigated the building there was an explosion and a fire. A police officer was burned in the incident and taken to hospital. His condition is not thought to be life threatening.
Ambulance crews and firefighters were called to the scene. A 40-year-old man was arrested at the Batavia Mews address on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He has been taken to hospital as a precaution.
At this early stage, the incident is not thought to be terror related and there is no evidence of drugs manufacture at the premises. The police investigation is ongoing.
