Children aged twelve to fifteen who are at higher risk from COVID-19 will be invited for their jabs by next Monday (August 23).
The UK’s medicine regulator announced in June that it was safe to provide this group with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
- Children with severe neuro-disability and/or neuromuscular conditions that impact respiratory function.
- Children with a learning disability, including anyone on the learning disability register, children with Down’s syndrome and those with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
- Children with a weakened immune system due to disease or treatment
- Children who are contacts of immunosuppressed people – e.g. share a household or are in contact most days
Initially they will be contacted by their GP but longer term it is aimed that every over-sixteen will be offered a walk in service.
It comes as sixteen and seventeen-year-olds will also be offered their first doses of the same vaccine by September after new advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.
As of August 11, across all five south-east London boroughs:
- 2,352,879 COVID vaccinations administered
- 1,332,483 people have received their first dose
- 1,020,396 people are now fully vaccinated
- 57 vaccination sites are operating
