Explore the radical past at South London Gallery’s first Local History Weekend in May, writes Josh Mellor…
Free talks, events and workshops will run over the weekend of the 31 May to 2 June from artists, local historians, activists and residents.
Locals are invited to leave their own stories on a giant map of the local area created by artist Soofiya Andry.
DIY clothing and zine making for children and families will be at the gallery all weekend with community printing The Big Family Press.
Plug in and listen to snapshots of life by sound artist John Macedo who has created an audio history trail at six locations across Elmington Estate.
An experimental film made collaboratively with children also explores life on the estate and will be screened at the Fire Station all weekend.
