A south London brewery that has its roots in Bermondsey is on its final day of a crowdfunder to launch a new beer that it hopes will rival Guinness.
Anspach and Hobsday, first established on the Bermondsey beer mile in 2014, launched a brewery in Croydon in 2019. The company navigated the pitfalls of the pandemic by switching focus to selling cans, rather than draught beer.
Now it has raised more than £540,000 – over twice its original target – for London Black, a porter that it thinks can be a match for Guinness, owned by global brand Diageo. The fundraiser will help Anspach and Hobsday to grow production and sales of London Black, which it began making earlier this year.
