Garages on a Bermondsey estate could be demolished to make way for council homes.
The council is proposing to knock down the garages in Welsford Street, next to Thorburn Square, to build ten new council properties, including one suitable for a wheelchair user.
The site of a car park adjacent to the garages, which is used by residents in the area, would also be built on if plans go ahead.
The proposals drawn up by the council’s architects also show plans for a “landscaped pocket park” on the corner of Welsford Street.
The local authority says the proposed development comes as part of its commitment to deliver 11,000 new council homes.
The plans will be available for the public to view at a drop-in session in the hall of St Anne’s Church, in Thorburn Square, SE1 5QH, from 3-7pm tomorrow, Thursday.
They are expected to be submitted by December.
If approved, building would begin in spring 2019 and be completed by winter 2020.
