Thames Water say properties without water due to the Jamaica Road leak should have their supply back ‘this afternoon’.
Southwark News’ office is one of the many buildings and homes affected by the burst main on Jamaica Road at the junction of Southwark Park Road.
The water supply was switched off while the leak was fixed. It has now been brought under control after first starting in the early hours of this morning after damage sustained during gas works.
A spokesperson for gas distribution company SGN said: “While carrying out emergency repairs to our gas main in Southwark Park Road, at its junction with Jamaica Road, in Bermondsey, a water main was damaged.
“The water leak has now stopped and we’re supporting Thames Water while they repair the gas main.
“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
