A Bermondsey school has been given a £100,000 grant for after-school classes to help children with science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) – including by building rockets and designing rollercoasters.
City of London Academy Southwark, on Lynton Road, was given the grant to put on after-school clubs that make STEM subjects interesting and exciting, over the course of six weeks.
The clubs are meant to be hands-on and will help children with other like skills like problem-solving, teamwork and decision-making.
The money comes from charity the Cadent Foundation and the groups will be run by educational charity City Year UK. Fifteen schools across the country are taking part.
