BMW car sharing service DriveNow launched in Southwark

Staff Reporter (06 November, 2018)

It is hoped the scheme will help reduce pollution and congestion

BMW today announced the expansion of its car share service DriveNow to five new London boroughs, including Southwark, writes Christopher Carey…

DriveNow allows users to rent a vehicle by the minute, hour or day. Customers can drive one-way, then drop the car in any residents or pay and display bay.

The expansion will see an additional 410 BMW and MINI vehicles available throughout the capital.

Cllr Richard Livingstone, cabinet member for environment, transport management and air quality, said: “We welcome DriveNow into Southwark, which expands the car clubs that operate in the borough and offers a new alternative for one way trips.

‘’Car clubs help our residents to move away from car ownership and DriveNow will play an important role in helping to improve air quality, reduce carbon emissions and make our borough a more pleasant place to live.”

The expansion will see DriveNow increase its current London fleet to a total of 720 BMWs and MINIs available across nine boroughs.

It aims to have an 80% all-electric club by 2025.

James Taylor, managing director of DriveNow UK commented: ‘’We hope that car sharing, used alongside other sustainable transport options such as walking, cycling and public transport, will continue to be embraced by Londoners to help reduce congestion and pollution in Southwark.”

All new UK customers who join from November 2 will, for a limited period, receive complimentary registration, as well as an initial £20 driving credit to get on the road.
