Borough Market will celebrate its 1,000th anniversary with song, poetry and food at the annual Southwark Civic Service on Saturday, March 7.
Southwark’s Mayor, Cllr Sunil Chopra, and Borough Market are joining forces to honour the long-standing food paradise with music by The Southwark Cathedral Singers, ARK All Saints’ Academy Choir and David Idowu Choir.
The Dean of Southwark, Very Reverend Andrew Nunn, said: “The history of the borough, the market and the cathedral are closely bound together. This makes this year’s Civic Service a fitting occasion on which to celebrate 1,000 years of this life.”
Donald Hyslop, Chair of the Trustees of Borough Market, said: “The Market has always been at the heart of life in Southwark and whilst we remember and celebrate our history, our tradition and our heritage, it is also important to think about where we are going to go in the next 20, 30, 100 years.”
Southwark Civic Service will take place in Southwark Cathedral on Saturday, March 7 at 11am.
