Police launched a high speed chase from Bethnal Green to Denmark Hill this afternoon in efforts to catch two suspected robbers on mopeds.
A Met spokesperson said: “Officers were called at 12:48hrs today following reports of two males on a moped attempting to rob people in Bethnal Green.
“Officers began an authorised pursuit of two males.
“Colleagues from the National Police Air Service provided support as the males were pursued.
“Their vehicle was driven at speed through east London; the males made their way from Bethnal Green, onto East India Dock Road then to Tower Hill, where they crossed over Tower Bridge.
“They arrived in Southwark where they made their way to Butterfly Walk in Denmark Hill, where a stinger was deployed and the males arrested on suspicion of driving offences and conspiracy to rob.
“The males (no further details) have been taken to a south London police station.
“Road closures are in place.”
Throughout the last few hours the News received multiple reports of helicopters circling overhead, including near our office in Bermondsey, and down the Old Kent Road, Walworth Road and into Camberwell.
I hope whatever is going on in #peckham / #camberwell is a training exercise. Must have been 10 police cars 5 unmarked ones blazing past in all directions. Ambulances and a helicopter!
