Canada Water tube station has been reopened while police search for a person who was reported to have a weapon.
Commuters were dramatically evacuated from the station shortly before 4pm this afternoon after reports of a person with an offensive weapon.
Police swooped on the station, and have found a knife left at the scene.
Trains were forbidden from stopping at the station sparking travel chaos, as officers searched the area for any suspects.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Canada Water Underground station at 3.44pm today (10/09) following reports of a person with an offensive weapon.
“The station was evacuated and trains were put on non-stop while officers searched the area. A knife was recovered and officers are working to identify the suspects.
“The station has now been reopened.”
One witness said on social media: “Something happened / happening at Canada Water Station – station evacuated and shut and lots of police there.
“Worth avoiding if possible.” A heavy police presence has also been reported around Surrey Quays.
The station has now reopened, but there may be ongoing disruption to trains.
