Evelyn Grace Academy’s first ever student to go on to study medicine at university is celebrating an excellent set of five A Levels today.
Jessica Pereira Rodrigues, who was delighted to receive an A* in Spanish, an A* in Portuguese, an A in Chemistry, an A in Biology and a B in Mathematics.
She will soon start studying medicine at St. Mary’s University.
An Ark spokesperson said: “Jessica has always been one of our hardest working students and is a shining example of our Academy’s core values.
“She is our first student to go on and study Medicine.
“She is an incredibly self-disciplined and motivated young woman who was never daunted by how competitive medicine is.
“She has acted as role model to all of her peers by continuing to work, study and – perhaps most importantly – keep smiling!”
The percentage of students at Ark Evelyn Grace academy achieving at least three A*-B grades has doubled in a year, and the same is also true of pupils gaining at least three A* to C grades, says the school.
Another happy student is Marcus Gooden-Husbands, who was awarded an A in maths, an A in religious education and a B in government and politics.
He is going on to read philosophy at King’s College.
“Marcus is a quiet, studious and hardworking individual who has achieved his goals by steadfastly working and studying in a self-disciplined and mature manner,” said his teachers.
“A Brixton resident his whole life, Marcus has avoided distractions and has remained determined to achieve his goal of going to a top university.”
Another strong student is Donnalyn Parocha Agbuggo who got an A* in Portuguese, an A in maths and a B in biology and will go on to study accounting and finance at Newcastle University.
Donnalyn lived in Spain until she was sixteen, and only moved to England two years ago.
“To achieve these results in a language that is not her mother-tongue is an incredible achievement and stands as a testament to her desire to achieve excellence,” said an Ark spokesperson.
Principal Tim Dainty said: “I am immensely proud of what has been achieved this year.
“It is fantastic to see both our students’ and teachers’ hard work and endeavour pay off on results day.
“Our drive for excellence has helped our students secure some very strong results that enable them to go on to university or compete for the very best positions in their chosen career.”
The school achieved an impressive 100 per cent pass rate for all students, with 31 percent of all results A or A* grades.
Three or more A*-B qualifications were achieved by 45 per cent of students, and the average point score of 37.3 improved from 34.76 last year.
