Southwark Council is giving residents the chance to close streets for three hours once a month during the summer to let children play in them, as part of Play Streets.
The scheme was set up by London Play and aims to revive “play time culture” in safe environments by restricting traffic.
London Play is a charity that wants to children to have the opportunity to have the space and freedom to play together.
Applications for the right to do so are now open and successful applicants will be granted a temporary “play street order”, which means a road may be closed for three hours.
Organisers are expected to maintain overall responsibility for the event by blocking the road, but the council has offered its support if needed.
