Comber Grove Primary is appealing for help funding new laptops for pupils – so no one is left without the technology needed to work from home.

On its GoFundMe page, the Camberwell Primary’s staff explain: “We are fundraising this amount to buy Chromebooks for our school so that children can have access to our online learning platform at home, if they are unwell, isolating or in the case of school closure.

“So many children have fallen behind as a result of lockdown and we are doing whatever we can to fill those learning gaps.

“We use an online learning platform called ClassDojo. Our teachers set and mark exciting learning, share good news and communicate with parents and carers using this.

“But some families unfortunately do not have access to a device at home and do not have funds to buy one.

“We too as a school are working on a limited budget and need all the help we can get.

“Please help a child’s education by donating whatever you can – we would really appreciate it”

£235 had been raised toward their £3,000 target, as of Monday.

Last month the government told headteachers it was refocusing its laptop provision to children and areas in ‘greatest need’ – with schools only receiving around 20 per cent of the laptops they were initially promised.

The move has been described as ‘unbelievable’ by Southwark Council’s deputy leader, Jasmine Ali, and ‘completely unacceptable’ by Dulwich and West Norwood MP Helen Hayes.

In May, we reported how Cllr Ali had strongly criticised the government for delays in making good on promises to provide 1,000 urgently needed laptops for children learning at home during lockdown.
