The security guard who was attacked last month while escorting a prisoner at Blackfriars Crown Court has died.
Lorraine Barwell, 54, passed away last Friday, after she was allegedly pushed to the ground and stamped on by a prisoner she was accompanying from the courtroom to a security van.
The grandmother’s family chose to turn off her life-support machine after doctors told them she would not survive. They also gave permission for her organs to be donated, which were used to save five lives, it has been reported.
Twenty-two-year-old Humphrey Burke, of no fixed abode, has been charged with grievous bodily harm.
He appeared at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court on July 1 and will appear at the Old Bailey on July 15.
