The designers behind The Green community centre have picked up a prestigious architecture award.
AOC Architecture received the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) award on May 22.
Work to rejuvenate the centre was spearheaded by the local community, led by the Nunhead Voice, as part of the ‘Putting the Village Back into Nunhead’ programme, which included:
- Shop-front improvements
- Promotion and support for traders
- Refurbishment of Nunhead Green
- New private and council housing
- And a series of community event
Councillor Mark Williams, cabinet member for regeneration and new homes, said: “I am delighted that this project has come together so well, all thanks to the local people who worked together to ensure it is exactly what they needed and wanted.
“The design is stunning and I am not surprised it has won this prestigious award. I hope that the space will serve the community who live in Nunhead and nearby for many years to come.”
