A Peckham drama school has opened up free places for drama school courses to young people living in Southwark and BAME people, writes Kit Heren…
Mountview, on Peckham Hill Road, has launched two online courses this autumn to help people thinking about applying for drama school with audition techniques.
The courses, which run for four weeks each, usually cost £250. A place from each course will be given to a young Southwark resident or a person of colour, who can live outside the borough, the school said.
The courses – called online audition prep “bootcamps” – are being given for both acting and musical theatre. People who take part will be taught about the audition process, how to choose the right materials for auditions, how to break down Shakespearean, classical and contemporary texts and other core acting skills. Current students on the longer courses will also be available to share their experiences.
Everyone who takes part gets a free audition for a longer course at Mountview afterwards.
The bootcamps include 16 hours of contact time on Zoom on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Courses run from Tuesday 17 October-Thursday 19 November and Tuesday 24 November-Thursday 17 December.
