Elephant and Castle’s iconic statue will be moved to a new home in October after being refurbished.
The landmark statue will be relocated to neighbouring Castle Square for the duration of the temporary retail park – after it has been given a clean and any repairs needed.
Under current plans, the statue will eventually move to an as yet undecided permanent site, when the town centre redevelopment project is completed.
A spokesperson for the town centre developers said: “Having the Elephant in Castle Square will allow it to remain in the heart of the community and for the 25 businesses from the shopping centre who have relocated to this area to remain trading in close proximity to the iconic landmark which has been the emblem for the area for more than five decades.”
