An Elephant & Castle community group is holding an online party this weekend to celebrate the end of lockdown, writes Kit Heren…
The Elephant & Castle Virtual Community Hub is hosting the free event on Zoom this Sunday, April 11, from 7pm-8pm to mark “the end of lockdown and a brighter future”.
The party will feature a fashion parade to showcase costumes that best represent lockdown, and a quiz, with winners of both events to get prizes.
Organisers have also promised a series of short films that “celebrate all the hard work of our frontline workers” and other memories of the past year, as well as singing and dancing performances and a “collage of hope”.
Anyone who shows up can also expect to learn how to make a tote bag.
The Elephant & Castle Virtual Community Hub launched in March 2020 at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The group hosts free virtual activities, fitness classes and arts and crafts workshops for local people.
The Community Hub is also offering April sessions for children, people who want to start their own business and people with arthritis.
For children, the group is working with local charity Art in the Park to run free creative workshops that include sessions on storytelling, drawing, prop making and working together. Other arts and craft workshops include
Easter decoration making and sessions on optical illusions.
People who want to launch a business can go to a workshop by local Apex College this Thursday, April 8 on how to be an entrepreneur. Organisers said the event will focus on coming up with a business idea, as well as asking what makes a good entrepreneur and running through practical tips on how to start a business.
Arthritis Action is also hosting a free workshop on Thursday April 8 where people can learn how to manage symptoms of arthritis.
