Evelina London Children’s Hospital has invited budding artists to submit “outer-space” artworks which will inspire the decor of the new Children’s Day Treatment Centre.
The centre, set to open in late 2022, is being built next to the existing hospital by Westminster Bridge and will have two new operating theatres, treating an extra 2,300 children per year.
Young people aged up to 25 can send over their art-works, with the winning pieces inspiring the space-themed interior design, brought to life by manga artist Kiriko Kubo.
Janet Powell, Director of Nursing at Evelina London, said: “Our competition is a really fun and engaging way for our patients and children and young people from our local community to contribute to the design of our new Children’s Day Treatment Centre.
“We know hospitals can be daunting and stressful places so it is very important to us that the space is designed specifically with our patients and young people in mind. The competition will help ensure that the building is family-friendly and reflects the needs of our patients and local community.”
The competition is open to both hospital patients and young people living in London and the South East and has a Monday, June 20 deadline.
The judging panel, including Kiriko, Evelina London staff and a young person, will pick winners from three different age categories.
The age categories are under 10s, 11 to 16-year-olds and 17 to 25-year-olds. The winner from each will get a £50 gift voucher, with the overall winner receiving a £100 gift voucher.
The new state-of-the-art centre will reduce surgery waiting times because everything, from pre-surgery checks to recovery can be done in one place, in one day.
