Dulwich Hamlet FC is coming home, and the rabble are well and truly roused by the news, with more than three thousand fans liking the tweet that broke the news on Tuesday.
Peckham Town FC, aka, The Menace, said: “It’s been lonely without our big sibling and neighbour in town. Can’t wait to have you back!”, while Carshalton Athletic wrote: “Brilliant news #DHFC – hope the move back goes smoothly! #nonleaguefamily’.
Labour and Coop peer Lord Kennedy, a Millwall and Hamlet supporter, described ‘one of our most vocal and tireless supporters’ by the club, described it as ‘wonderful news’, while Sadiq Khan said: “Fantastic news for everyone who has campaigned so hard alongside the club, the fans, Southwark Council and so many other for this superb community club to return home to Champion Hill.”
The club has also announced its official charity partner for this season will be Redthread, a charity that works in A&Es and primary care to support young people affected by violent crime.
The club could be back on home turf within six weeks – but for now it looks like the celebrations have only just started.
