Firefighters were called to reports of a ‘chemical smell’ at a flat in Bermondsey.
Two fire engines and a pair of fire rescue units were called to a property above a shop on Southwark Park Road at about 1.24pm today.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus investigated, but no chemical was discovered.
“We were called to a suspected chemical incident and carried out a sweep of the area,” a fire spokesperson said.
“There were no elevated readings and we vented property.
“One person was assessed by London Ambulance Service but was showing no signs of symptoms.
“One female and one other male had left the neighbouring flats before the brigade arrived.”
Two fire engines from Deptford and New Cross attended, along with two fire rescue units from Bethnal Green and Lewisham, and paramedics from London Ambulance Service.
The incident was over by 2.50pm.
